The interview is part of a special edition of “Sunday Morning,” titled “#Guns and America,” which looks at the role of #firearms in the country from a variety of historical, cultural, political and personal points of view.
Froman, a past president of the #NRA, maintains the country would be safer if more law-abiding citizens owned and were trained to use guns. [NRA CEO and Executive Vice President, Wayne LaPierre, has argued that “the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”]
“I think a good guy with a gun could protect himself or herself,” Froman said. “If you have a choice of using your gun to save your life or having your life taken, then yes, I think you should have that choice.”
Braver also explores the controversial question of whether the country would be safer if more people — rather than fewer — carried guns. She talks with former CNN anchor Lynne Russell and her husband, former CNN reporter Chuck De Caro, gun-owners who were involved in a hotel room shootout with an intruder that left De Caro wounded and the assailant dead.

Americans should have the choice of defending themselves using guns if they want, National Rifle Association board member Sandy Froman tells Rita Braver, in an interview for CBS’ “Sunday Morning” to be broadcast on March 13.
